This week’s episode of The Simpsons is entitled “The Fool Monty”. At the beginning of the episode it becomes apparent that there is a new fatal disease going around. In preparation for the epidemic there was a new vaccine made to fight off the virus. It was stated that it would be offered to the families of Springfield at a certain location and therefore the families lineup in preparation for obtaining the vaccine. As a funny remark they say that only one child per family will be able to receive it. While waiting in line, Mr. Burns comes around and decides to cut the entire line. He believes that he can get whatever he desires and obtains 37 vaccines. He takes so many because he wanted to give the vaccine to his dogs, which are not even capable of getting this particular virus. This just goes to show that the wealthy believe that they are above everyone else. They can get whatever they want whenever they want it just because they have more money than the common citizen. When getting his vaccine injected Mr. Burns learns from a doctor that he is dying from many different illnesses. Mr. Burns then decides to have a huge party and invite the entire town of Springfield just to aware everyone that he is dying. He realizes that everybody hates him and he jumps off of a cliff and become mentally handicapped. He is no longer the crazy, old, mean man that he once was. Bart stumbles upon the old man in the woods and takes him home. The people of Springfield find out about this occurrence and each day a new person takes Mr. Burns and uses him however they want. They treat him the way he once treated them all, with no respect or affection. This just goes to show that being wealthy will not always get you where you want to be in life. Treat others the way you would want to be treated and you will be able to accomplish more and be happy while you are doing it.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about the wealthy thinking that they're superior to everyone else. Over break I was going around a rich neighborhood trying to raise money for my relay for life team and assumed this neighborhood would be willing to donate considering they have so much money. But, to my surprise many of the residents were very rude and snobby. One woman even said rude remarks to me about soliciting right in front of her son. That's not teaching him good manners at all and it's just going to cause him to grow up the same way. I hope that when he's a boy scout and has to raise money for something that people are as mean as his mother was. The phrase "treat others the way you would want to be treated" is very true and this woman should really learn it because karma will come around to bite her in the end, just like it did to Mr. Burns.
